1946 - 2019

By: Aoife Mcguire | Date Added:

Peggy Lipton was an American actress, model and singer. Lipton was born in New York City in 1946. She had a severe stutter due to sexual abuse. She was one of the first celebrities to ever speak about her stuttering. Lipton became a successful model at just 15 and her mother encouraged her to take up acting. She was cast in the iconic series “The Mod Squad” as undercover cop Julie Barnes. Lipton became an “it girl” and was praised for her performance. Lipton took a break from acting for 15 years while raising her children with her husband, musician and producer Quincy Jones. She returned in 1988 to play Norma Jennings in David Lynch’s groundbreaking show “Twin Peaks”. Following her death in 2019 from colon cancer, Lynch called her “gracious, caring… a beautiful soul.” Lipton is remembered for her amazing performances and for using her platform to speak out about issues such as child abuse.
