Marina Diamindis

Date Added:

Marina Diamindis (more known as Marina, and previously used the stage name Marina and the Diamonds) is a Welsh singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. She attended Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls in Wales. She states "I sort of found my talent there... I was the one who always skived off choir, but I had an incredible music teacher who managed to convince me I could do anything." When she was 16, she moved to Greece (where her father lived) and studied the Greek language and folk songs. She became obsessed with becoming a singer and studied music for a bit at the University of East London. In 2005, she created the name "Marina and the Diamonds", taught herself piano and began recording her own music off of GarageBand. Her debut single "Obsessions" was released in 2009 along with her extended play "The Crown Jewels EP". In 2010, her debut studio album "Family Jewels" was released at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2011, Marina began to attract an American audience when she performed as an opening act on Katy Perry's California Dreams tour. That same year her wildly beloved single "Primadonna" came out, paving the way to the full album "Electra Heart". It debuted at 31 on the US Billboard 200. She released several other projects including "Froot" and later on "Love and Fear". Most recently, she released the song "About Love" for the "To All The Boys: P.S. I Love You" soundtrack, and came out with her latest album "Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land".
