Mitra Farazandeh (Talesh, Gilan, 1976) is an Iranian artist and activist. Mitra is an artist who speaks out about living with physical disabilities. She works hard for artists with disabilities to get the recognition they deserve. She is an artist, living in Talesh, a small village in the Gilan region of northern Iran, who advocates for the visibility of the sexual desire of disabled women in a conservative society like Iran's. Mitra strongly believes in the expression of certain forms of sexuality, which are considered taboo by this society. Farazandeh describes her own experience and the frustrations of living with physical disabilities. As an artist she earns a living by selling works of art created by herself. She inspires artist with disabilities to not view that disability as an hinderance from achieving what you want but something pushing you to get there. Mitra Farazandeh is on the list of the most inspiring and influential women in the world, during the year 2018, compiled by the BBC.
