Jennifer Anne Garner (born April 17, 1972, is an American actress, activist, and entrepreneur from Houston, Texas. She was the second child born to Patricia and Bill Garner. One parent was a chemical engineer and the other a retired English professor, Garner was raised in Charleston, West Virginia with her two sisters, Melissa and Susannah. Garner graduated from George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia. While in high school, Garner attended church every Sunday and followed her family’s conservative lifestyle, which included not wearing make-up and not being allowed to pierce her ears until she was 16-years old. In 1990, she moved to Ohio to attend attended Denison University. She originally majored in chemistry, but soon switched her major and graduated with a degree in theater in 1996 and was also a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority at her college. In 1995, Garner moved to New York City with plans of pursuing a theater career. After performing on stage, she moved to Los Angeles for television work, landing bit parts on Spin City and Law & Order. In 2000 she earned notice for her role on Felicity. Following a supporting role in Pearl Harbor, Garner gained recognition for her performance as CIA officer Sydney Bristow in the ABC spy-action thriller Alias, which aired from 2001 to 2006. For her work on the series, she won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Following her TV success, she landed roles in films like Catch Me If You Can, Elektra, The Kingdom, Juno and Dallas Buyers Club. Garner was married to actor Scott Foley from 2000 until 2004. In 2005 she married Daredevil co-star Ben Affleck, with whom she has three children: daughters Violet and Seraphina and son Samuel. After 10 years of marriage, Garner and Affleck announced their separation in June 2015. The sorority that Jennifer Garner joined at Denison University, Pi Beta Phi Ohio Eta Chapter, was founded on September 18,1954. The origin of the sorority was founded one hundred and fifty years ago, by 12 young women who gathered in a second-floor bedroom in Monmouth, Illinois. The founders of Pi Beta Phi created the sorority to cultivate sincere friendships, establish real-life objectives and promote happiness. The Denison University initiation ceremony took place at the College Town House, a large Victorian home used for meetings. The installation banquet took place in the main dining room of the Granville Inn. The Ohio Eta chapter house is special because it is a place where members choose to come together to celebrate sisterhood. The house is non-residential, so members do not live there. All the time spent there is geared towards chapter business, philanthropic activities and sisterhood. The mission of Pi Beta Phi Foundation is to enable the Fraternity to realize its mission and ensure the future of the sisterhood. The shared vision of Pi Beta Phi is to be recognized as a premier organization for women by providing lifelong enrichment to its members and contributing to the betterment of society. In addition to the Fraternity’s core values, the Pi Beta Phi Foundation embraces these values: Integrity, Philanthropic Passion, Fraternal and Community Commitment, and Trustworthy Stewardship.
