Fannie Pettie was born in Perry, Georgia. she was one of the five founding members of Zeta Phi Beta Incorporated. She held membership with the Delta Alpha Zeta Chapter in Brooklyn, New York, and was a lifelong member. She is credited with organizing Omicron Beta chapter in Brooklyn. Her parents were attorney Foster B. Pettie and Fannie Rollins Pettie. She attended the public schools in Savannah, Georgia, and continued her formal training at Georgia State College. Ms. Pettie later graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and taught junior and senior high schools in Savannah, Georgia. Her post- graduate studies in social work and in housing were pursued at New York University. Professionally, Founder Fannie Pettie Watts was the Social Investigator for the Department of Social Service in Brooklyn and Director of the Cradle Roll division of Brooklyn's Nazarene Congregational Church. She was credited with organizing two additional Zeta chapters and had an active membership in the Delta Alpha Zeta chapter. Fannie Pettie was born in Perry, Georgia Founder Fannie Pettie Watts’ triumphant life ended in 1995. She was married to the late John G. Watts and was the mother of two sons.
