Amina Doherty is a Nigerian and Antiguan feminist artivist whose work focuses on feminist philanthropy and creative arts for advocacy. Amina Doherty received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Women’s studies from McGill University and an MSc in Gender, Development and Globalization from the London School of Economics. Amina Doherty has lived in Nigeria, Canada, Jamaica and the U.K, her current home is in Antigua and Barbuda. Doherty supports several community-led media platforms across Africa and the Caribbean and uses her passion for music, art , travel ,photography, fashion and poetry as a large part of her activism. Doherty worked in the women’s rights grantmaking program at the Sigrid Rausing Trust in London in this position she worked with governments, international non-governmental organizations, community-led groups and philanthropist. Doherty also worked as a researcher and youth organizer at the Directorate of Gender Affairs in Antigua. Amina worked as the Director of Tactics at the Association for Women’s Rights in Development. After these positions she became the general coordinator of Frida, The Young Feminist Fund a find that she helped create. The organization aims to strengthen young feminist organizations across the global by giving small grants. She’s worked for the African Women’s Development Fund based in Ghana. She currently works as the Program Director for the Caribbean women’s Voice and Leadership Program at the Equality Fund. Amina Doherty serves as a Caribbean adviser to Mama Cash which is the first international Women’s fund in the world. She also currently sits on the board of Just Associated which is a global organization working to strengthen the voice, visibility and power of women as well as the board for the Global Fund for women which is the world's leading foundation for gender equality. In 2012 she was recognized by the singer Annie Lennox as a women’s rights champion for change. Amina Doherty strives to bring people and ideas together to create positive change. Her work is centered around raising awareness for social justice through movement building and innovative approaches to philanthropy. Her innovative approaches are art exhibitions, community programs, cultural events and grant-making initiatives. Even though they are different approaches they all flow towards a single goal which is to promote awareness and change through intersectionality. Amina Doherty is helping to build a more core fuel, equal and just world
