After I decided to write this tribute, I was beset with feeling inadequate to the task of expressing what Ketriana has meant to so many people, including me. What adjectives are adequate to describe the full range of Ketriana’s multi-talented, multi-faceted lived experience that has uplifted the lives of her friends, neighbors, colleagues and co-workers, even acquaintances. She approaches and interacts with all folks with a generous, compassionate, and caring spirit that says I salute and encourage the best in you. Indeed I can say that Ketriana is an inspiration because she inspired me. I met Ketriana at an August Wilson play, and we discovered that we were both interested in writing, but I had been just talking about writing again instead of actually writing. She coaxed me into joining her writing group and eventually gently challenged me to write a poem a day during National Poetry Month. That experience re-awakened my passion for writing. Through Ketriana’s example, I also saw that I could overcome the “too busy to write” syndrome. I watched Ketriana write every day no matter what, often staying up to 3:00 AM even though she had to get up early for work the next day. Yes, inspirational. And Ketriana kept plugging away and eventually published her book, Sequin Soul , while she worked full-time, produced and hosted an Arts & Entertainment show for BRIC Free Speech TV, engaged in social activism and participated in community organizations. Yet she was always available to help the needy, whether family, friend or neighbor, and visit the sick and comfort those in need of a kind word. Yes, inspirational. Phew! Lest I forget, Ketriana continues to inspire as she works to bring her entrepreneurial quest, through her One Woman League company, to share her knowledge and experience in helping other women realize their goals. Yes, truly inspirational.
