Galina Vichnevskaya became the most exciting soprano and public figure in the Soviet Union. After world war ll. She had a major career on Bolshoi stage Cut short due to political beliefs of her And her husband. She was born October25,1926. Cast out by her parents at six weeks, Galina was raised her Grandmother. Several time she was nearly die, only her indole table spirit enabling her to survive. She received her vocal talent from her father and fiery temperament from mother. As a ten years old Galina was presented with gramophone and album of Eugene Onegin . The decision was made , she Must become an artist and sing. She studied at Rimsky Korsakov School of music. Beginning her career With the Leningrad district Operetta Theatre. Galina was still eighteen. To gain some personal freedom she left the theatre becoming solo concert artist. In 1953 she become a member of Bolshoi Theater. An audition for Bolshoi Theatre in your competition she was accepted into the company on her first Foreign trip to Prague when got to know Mstislav Rostropovich – cellist - conductor. In 1955 she married Mstilav Rostropovich until his death I 2007. They performed together regularly . Mstislav Rostropovich was admired for his keen musicianship, both in contemporary works. The recipient of Numerous awards and Kennedy Center Honor. She got close association with composer Shostakovich. She said: “The friendship of Shostakovich cast a brilliant light over my whole life and whose Spiritual qualities captured my soul once for my life.” on 1957 she made her debut in Finnish National Opera. In 1960 she made her first appearance at the National Theater, as Aida, In 1961 she made her Metropolitan Opera Metropolitan Opera debut as Aida, The following year she made her debut at the Royal Opera House. In 1962 soprano role in War requiem was completed. USSR prevented her from traveling to Coventry Cathedral for the premiere performance. They eventually allowed her to leave in order to make the first recording of the requiem. In 1974 the couple asked Soviet government for extend leave and left the Soviet union . Eventually they settled in United States and Paris. In 1982 Farewell to the opera stage in Paris In 1987 she are stage directed in Washington D.C. In 1984 she Published a memoir, made many recording. From 1991 on wards, the Rostropovich – Vishnevskaya foundation has worked to improve the health of millions of children round the world notably through vaccination programs. In 2002 she opened her own theater in Moscow “Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center”. Much of the last part of her life she spend teaching in her center. In 2006 she was featured in Alexander Sokurov’s documentary . In 2007 she starred in his film Alexandra ,playing the role of Grandmother. The film premiered at 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Russian president honored her with the First Class Order. In 2006 Second Class - for outstanding contribution to music and many years Of fruitful creative activity.3 Class - for great personal contribution to the development of musical art. 4 Class - for outstanding contribution to development of national musical culture and many years Of teaching and educational activity. Doctor of the Arts honoris , River College New Hampshire ,USA. Doctor of Music, St. Lawrence University USA and many more. On December 2012 Galina Vishnepolskaya died at age 86 in Moscow. Despite a difficult life , she left Enough of recorded legacy to ensure her status as the great Russian female singer of her era. She was Named a People’s Artist of the USSR.
