Ameesha Patel was born as Amisha Amit Patel on June 9, 1975 in Mumbai to Amit and Asha Patel. Her name originated from combining her parents’ first names. Since she was five years old, she trained in Bharatnatyam dancing. Before Ameesha made her acting debut, she started her career as an economic analyst at Khandwala Securities Limited in the United States. Thereafter, she returns to India and joined Satyadev Dubey’s theatre group and acted in several plays. By then she became an actress and model who has appeared in numerous famous Indian-brand commercials. She has made some accomplishment as an actress and also participated in humanitarian efforts in her own time. Ameesha got her big break after her father’s classmate, Rakesh Roshan offered the lead female role for the 2000 film “Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai”. The film became a huge success and earned her numerous awards for Best Debut. Ameesha followed up with the successful Telugu film, “Badri”. Furthermore, she earned a Filmfare Award for Special Performance for the film, “Ek Prem Katha”. Although Ameesha was making big waves from 2000 to 2001, her films in late 2001 and early 2002 failed to be commercially successful. She regained success at the end of 2002 romantic thriller, “Humraaz”. Her performance earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress. However, this success was short-lived as her following films were unsuccessful. From 2003 to 2006, Ameesha’s acting career was in a slump. In 2007, she started to renew her success with the moderate successful film, “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.”. She continued to find roles and by 2009, she took a sabbatical due to her films being delayed or shelved. She makes a return in 2011 and also explored other outlets like a reality show in 2019. Aside from acting, Ameesha has done many stage performances during her career. She has completed her own tours and joined other artists as well. In addition, she is very involved in humanitarian work and joined the animal rights organization, PETA in 2004. She fought for animals in zoos who were away from their natural environment for the sake of entertainment. In February 2005, she helped raised money for the victims impacted by the 2004 India Ocean Earthquake by preforming at the HELP! Telethon Concert. Later that same year, Ameesha participated in the Temptations charity function in New Delhi to promote employment for individuals with disabilities. She has also fought against human trafficking in India and promoted education to villages who cannot read. Ameesha is inspirational for her determination, passion, and hard work to be a successful actress. Her initial career was great but she realized she needed to improve due to the many flops thereafter. Her career took another slump but with her persistence she was able to be successful and expanded her career by doing live performances and television shows. She is well deserving of her accolades and likes to give back to the community.
