Alia Bhatt was born on March 15th 1993 in Mumbai, India to Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan. Her father is Gujarati and Indian film director while her mother is Kashmiri Pandit-German and an actress. Alia has an older sister and two stepsibling. Alia became one of the highest paid actress in India and has dual citizenship, India and England. Other than being an actress, she has ventured into business and helping the environment. Alia had a normal childhood even though others thought she had a glamorous and luxurious life. Alia didn’t really build a bond with her father and her mother was pretty much a single parent as her father was not interest in caring for the children. Alia was inspired to be an actress when she was in the school choir in kindergarten. Eventually, she began dance lessons and played her first role at the age of five in her father’s production, “Sangharsh” in 1999. By 2012, she had her first leading role in “Student of the Year” where she audition with 500 girls. She earned the part after losing some weight but had mixed reviews from the critics. Alia desired to do better and the opportunity was presented in the film, “Highway” in 2014. She took diction lessons to improve her Hindi and worked hard on the emotional and physical challenges playing a girl who has Stockholm Syndrome. Although she received positive reviews, the film underperformed. However, she won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress and a nomination for the same title in another ceremony. Alia also did a Tamil film, “2 States” where she had a tutor to practiced her Tamil lines. In 2016, the film, “Udta Punjab” was critically acclaimed due to Alia’s performance and preparation by watching documentaries and learning the Bihari dialect. In the same year, the film, “Dear Zindagi” was released and both films earned her nominations and wins. She continued to reach new heights as it was the golden age for her. Other than being a successful actress, she has done playback singing where she received formal training from A. R. Rahman. She also completed live performances for award ceremonies and collaborated with other celebrities. She also contributed to the fundraiser for the flood victims in Uttarakhand. Alia also loves animals and worked alongside PETA and launch an ecological initiative called, “CoExist”. Lastly, she started her own clothing and handbag line as well. Alia is an inspiration as she is passionate and dedicated to her acting career. She started at a young age but develop good work ethic to earn her roles. Alia at one point appears to be a method actor as she take her roles very seriously and will go through any training to succeed. Other than her acting, she has a big heart for the world as she cares for the environment, animals, and people who are struggling. With all her accomplishments, she continue to explore other ventures like with her clothing and handbag line.
