Jimmie Bugg Middleton was born in 1890 – and expired on February 17, 1967, the exact month and day of her birth is unknown; she was born in Lunchburg, Virgina United States. Ms. Middleton was one of the astounding founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was the daughter of Dr. James Bugg the first medical graduate of Shaw University. She is a Cum Laude graduate of Howard University where she helped to organize Delta Sigma Theta in 1913. She helped lobby Delta Sigma Theta to participate in the March for Women's Suffrage. Ms. Middleton was a mother of two outstanding Deltas: Dr. C.B. (Kitty) Middleton, and Mrs. Amanda M. Williams, librarian and teacher of Washington, D.C., and grandmother of a soon to be Delta at Hampton Institute, an active participant in several civic organizations; and a valuable worker with the Wake County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Not only did Middleton receive her Bachelors degree from Howard University, but also her Masters degree in 1936, the same year her youngest daughter received her Bachelors. Through much effort, she established the Raleigh Alumnae Chapter, Alpha Zeta Sigma, in Raleigh, North Carolina, on May 7, 1938. In 1944, she was appointed to the Scholarship Board of New York's 22nd Congressional District. Her other accomplishments included: president and national treasurer of the National Association of College Women and served as the Dean of a girls' high school in Raleigh, NC. Raleigh Alumnae Chapter, Alpha Zeta Sigma, will remember her as a former teacher in the Washington High School and Shaw University. She retired from teaching in the D.C public schools and made her home with her sister, Miss Margaret Bugg another Delta sorority member in Raleigh, North Carolina. For her share in helping in the founding of the sorority, for her extensive activities of service in her community, for continuing to set such a fine example of a rich and full life, the Raleigh Deltas dedicated a souvenir booklet of the 1962 Jabberwock to Ms. Middleton.
