Suzanne Lenglen was a French Tennis player champion, a legend from the years of 1914 to 1926. She has won several champion titles, 31 in total in 12 years! Lenglen is also included in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In America, Lenglen had played at the U.S. Nationals in the year of 1921, the only part Lenglen wasn't able to play the was the Australian Championships. Lenglen was known for her daring and dashing charm, she had appeared in the Sports magazine with headlines beaming "The Lady in the White Silk Dress" the magazine applauded her victory and continued on to say, "Suzanne Lenglen drank, swore and had lovers by the score – and played tennis incomparably, losing once in seven years." At the age of 15, Lenglen was a champion and in Paris, she had won the World Hardcourt Champion. Lenglen was interesting, and was a daring champion, She was the first Tennis player to have wore her hair in a bobbed style, had painted her nails, didn't wear bulky undergarments, and wore bright red lipstick! In the time, women players weren't able to have their tennis dresses trimmed below calf level, but Lenglen did and also her sleeves were short. Between the years of 1919 and 1926, Lenglen had only lost one match, to Mallory at the 1921 U.S. Nationals. Lenglen had also competed against other famous Tennis players, one such as Helen Wills who was 20-years old and at the time (1926) had won three U.S. titles. This match was called "The Match of the Century" and they had competed in Carlton Tennis Club, where this gained worldwide attention. In the year of 1926, Lenglen was a champion. Lenglen did everything in style, in 1919, Wimbledon tournament had their first fashion scandal, where her dressing was tabboo for women tennis players at the time, she had a low neck dress with short sleeves and her skirt was calf length, and she wore a hat, without a petticoat and a corset, but Lenglen had won the Wimbledon championships, and had also won the French Opens and Olympic medals. Lenglen was changing history at its course, she was changing the fashion history as well as the tennis history! In media she was known as the "Lenglen bandeau." In 1926, she was presented with a medal by Queen Mary and that marked her 50th championship at Wimbledon, she was the young athlete who challenged everyone, and was a global fashion influencer, at the young ago of 20. Womens competitions had been held in Wimbledon since 1884, and the sport Tennis has a long history where everyone is attracted to the spectacular games. The "All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club" are the ones who host Wimbledon.
