Shashi Ji Tyagi is the co-founder of Gravis in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India and she is the Leader of Hands-On Gandhian Retreat which is the institute of World Culture Santa Barbara, in California, USA. She leads as the secretary of GRAVIS, and is the administrative head part of GRAVIS. The company has been around since 1983, with her husband Laxmi Chand Tyagi. Gravi's two principles are GRAM Swaraj and also Sarvodaya, which Gram Swaraj stands for the concept of "Village self-rule and Sarvodaya which is a concept that stands for, "all rising but the last first.'' Shashi had believed that it was important to bring the community together and give a voice to the marginalized residents ,so this allowed to give them a new vision for the village life of Thar. Shashi has provided service by improving lives in Rajasthan, India, mostly for women and the youth. Gravis's work concludes poor, rural desert communities in the states of Rajasthan, Uttarahand, and Uttar Pradesh in Northern India. Her work has reached 1.2 million people in the area. Trishala Deb had an opportunity to speak with Shashi Ji about her work, and the current situation which is occurring in India. The conversation of human rights continued on to go about Land rights and gender rights, they have also had a march in Delhi and it was successful. The government has also put a ban on the place where most people went to eat, sleep, and make demands which the location was in the heart of the city, and people are now fighting for the space and cause. She also stated that the government is also using the money for tourism and big businesses, while there are some people are having no lands, there they are working for land rights, person rights, caste disparities, and religion disparities. Shashi has also mentioned of freedom occurring in the womens lives because of education and the work they're performing, but their are still some women who are suffering because they have to manage two lives, which is inside the home and outside the home, but most of the changes that are taking place, are not really big changes.
