Selena Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas and began her stardom in the kid show Barney and Friends. She then guest started in Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Hannah Montana. But in 2007, she took the lead in hit show Wizards of Waverly Place and in 2009 she released hr pop album Kiss and Tell. Selena went on to star in other projects such as the 2013 film Spring Breakers and the 2015 album Revival. In 2012 she performed the voice of Mavis in the animated film Hotel Transylvania, which became a hit. She is currently set to voice a character in the upcoming film The Voyage of Dr. Doolittle. However, in early January of 2014, she announced to the world that she had been battling lupus an autoimmune disease that causes facial swelling, headaches, fatigue, and joint pain. In 2017 she then announced that the advancing symptoms caused her to undergo a kidney transplant with her close friend, Francia Rasia serving as the donor. "She lived with me in this interesting time were my kidneys were just done.. the thought of asking somebody to donate was really difficult for me." On November 20, 2017 Gomez was honored at the Lupus Research Alliance Annual Gala in New York City for helping raise more than $500,000 toward research for the disease and saving millions of lives. On November 30, 2017 Selena was names woman of the year at the annual Billboard Women in Music event. She has also served as a spokesperson for Borden Milk, appearing in the organization's print ads and advertising campaigns. She has been a long time supporter of UNICEF and has become one of the organization's ambassador's in 2009 and has worked hard to help the world's children through her C.A.N- Charity, ACTION, NOW initiative. Unfortunately, she has been recently hospitalized but has been discharged. Selena is a true inspiration , she is the definition of a strong, independent, well-rounded woman who never looses her elegance and humility.
