Rosemonde Pierre Louis earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Tufts University and her law degree from Case Western University School of Law. She is the Deputy Director for Administration and External Affairs at the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. Prior to that, she worked in the public sector, serving in the administration of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio as the Senior Adviser to the NYC Commission on Gender Equity. In addition, Pierre-Louise was the Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence. As the Manhattan Deputy Borough President, from 2006-2013, she oversaw several initiatives related to community board reform, sustainability, transportation, and criminal justice. Dedicated to community development, she also served as the leader of various organizations such as Network for Women Services, Harlem Legal Services, and Sanctuary for Families. Moreover, Pierre-Louise was the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the New York Women’s Foundation and co-founded the Haitian Roundtable to advocate on issues impacting the Haitian community. In 2010, after an earthquake hit Haiti, she was appointed by Hillary Clinton as a U.S. representative at the United Nations Haiti Donor Pre-Conference in Martinique, West Indies. For her dedication to help the most vulnerable receive access to justice, services and support, she was awarded various honors including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the YWCA NYC Community Leadership Award, and the Louis J. Lefkowitz Award from the Fordham University Urban Journal.
