Maria was born in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico and taught in an elementary school during the chaotic Mexican Revolution. However, she then immigrated to Texas and opened a grocery store and bakery. Her husband and herself were quite active in their fight for community rights and eventually became involved in the political realm. She and her husband founded the Orden Caballeros de America an organization dedicated to the civic and political activities of Mexicans living in America. In 1945, she published her essay "Mexico y los Cuatro Poderes Que Dirigen al Pueblo" where she stated that "the domestic sphere was the foundation of the society and mothers were the authority figures who shaped nations." On January 8, 1986 Maria passed awa and was buried in the plot of the Orden Caballeros de America outside of Texas.
