Krystyna is the first women who went to sail solo alone around the world. She is also an architect and the first women to sail solo. In college she proceeded to build a college career in shipbuilding engineering course in Gdansk University of Technology. In the same university she met her husband and bought a yacht together and named it Mechatek. Krystyna earner her degree in Naval Architecture and then carried on to her career to become a boat designer. She gained sailing experiences, while sailing around the world, she also had a competitor who had broken the record after her, Naomi James. The yacht Mazurek was built by her husband to make a world record to travel all around the world. Her starting point was the Canary Islands and then her last stop was the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on April 21st, 1978. In 1978, she was the first women who traveled around the world in 1978. Krystyna faced many challenges when she was sailing, one factor she faced what she was a women, and she didn't know any other women who did this. The weather was also not as perfect plus she hadn't known if her yacht was durable, but she still remained the stay confident. She had sailed for 401 days and a total miles of 31,166. Other woman had also started to sail around the world, which one was Naomi James of New Zealand and Kay Cottee of Australia in 1988. Krystyna will always be known as a Polish national hero.
