Lieutenant General Stayce D. Harris is a retired United States Air Force officer and command pilot. Born in Los Angeles, California, she earned her commission through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and built a distinguished career in military aviation and leadership. Over the course of her service, she logged more than 2,500 flying hours in military aircraft and commanded both the 729th Airlift Squadron and the 22nd Air Force. Harris later served as Inspector General of the Air Force, one of the most senior leadership roles in the service. She is also recognized as the first Black woman promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in the United States Air Force. Her story is important because it shows the leadership, skill, and perseverance of women of color in military aviation, a field where their contributions have often been overlooked or difficult to find in public history.
