Ayanna Howard

1972 - Today

Date Added:

Dr. Ayanna Howard inspires me as a pioneer in robotics, artificial intelligence, and inclusive technology. She began her career at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she worked on advanced robotics for space exploration. Later, as a professor at Georgia Tech, she led the Human-Automation Systems Lab and helped shape the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. Her work is not just about building smart machines; it is about making technology serve people, especially those who are often left out. Through her company Zyrobotics, she helped create educational and therapy tools for children with special needs, showing that innovation can be both cutting-edge and deeply compassionate. Today, as the first woman dean of the College of Engineering at Ohio State University, she continues to break barriers in a field where women—and especially Black women—are still underrepresented. Ayanna Howard inspires me because she proves that you can be a brilliant scientist, a leader, and an advocate for equity all at the same time. Her career reminds me that using our skills to uplift others is one of the most powerful forms of activism.
