1972 - Today

Date Added:

Anika Noni Rose is an award-winning actress, singer, and activist, best known for her groundbreaking role as Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog (2009), the first Black and American Disney princess. Beyond her contributions to entertainment, Anika is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in media and the arts. She has used her platform to champion causes such as racial justice, education, and women’s empowerment. Anika Noni Rose is also a fierce advocate for the accurate representation of Tiana in subsequent Disney films and attractions. In the initial trailer for the film Ralph Breaks the Internet, Princess Tiana appeared with a lighter skin tone, a narrower nose, and more European features than in the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. Rose collaborated with the advocacy group Color of Change to work with Disney on redesigning the character to more closely resemble her original appearance. She reprised her role as Tiana in the Disney attraction Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which opened in late 2024, and advocated for the opening of Tiana's Place, a restaurant that debuted in September 2023.
