Adrienne Shelly, actress, director, screen-writer, a true artist, through and through, accomplished so much in a life cut short. Born Adrienne Levine in Queens, New York, Adrienne began performing at 10 years-old. While in high school, Adrienne made her professional debut in summer stock in a production of Annie. She studied film production at Boston College but dropped out to come back to New York and begin her career on the stage. In addition to dozens of Off-Broadway productions, Adrienne starred in several independent films and guest-starred in series including Law and Order and Oz. Adrienne's creative career moved behind the scene writing and directing plays and film. Her masterpiece, Waitress, a story of a young waitress who possesses extraordinary baking ability was her last project. In addition to being one of the featured actors, Adrienne served as writer and director of this award-winning film. Adrienne never saw the release of this film as she was tragically murdered in her office by a construction worker in the building. Adrienne's legacy lives on in the Broadway show Waitress, based on her brilliant screenplay. Adrienne's husband and daughter Sophie keep her memory alive with the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, whose mission is to support women filmmakers.
