Popular Hollywood actress, Dolores Hart shocked the movie industry when she gave up her acting career to become a Benedictine Roman Catholic nun. Dolores Hart, born Dolores Hicks on October 20, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois was the only child of Bert and Harriett Hicks. Using the stage name of 'Dolores Hart', in 1956 she played the love interest to Elvis Presley in the 1957 film Loving You. Finding herself an in-demand actress and she made two more films before co-staring with Elvis Presley again in 1958's King Creole. She then made her Broadway debut, winning a 1959 Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress for her role in the film, The Pleasure of His Company. In 1960, Dolores starred in Where the Boys Are, a comedy about college students on spring break which is now a cult favorite. Dolores went on to star in four more films, her last was 1963's Come Fly with Me. After visiting a convent, Dolores decided to leave the entertainment industry, break off her engagement to Los Angeles businessman Don Robinson, and become Roman Catholic nun at the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut. She loved working in the entertainment industry but felt working in the convent was more fulfilling.
