Born and raised in Los Angeles, operatic soprano Angel Blue was captivated by music at age four when she saw the opera Turandot. As a teenager she studied piano and classical voice, later earning a bachelor's and master's degree in vocal performance. Angel has earned prestigious awards including from the Metropolitan Opera National Council and the Richard Tucker Award that recognizes singers who are on their way to great international careers. Since then, Angel has performed leading roles in halls throughout Europe and the United States. In 2020 she sang the role of Bess, in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Porgy and Bess. This was the first time it was performed at the opera house in 30 years. In 2022 Angel pulled out of a performance in Verona, Italy for the theater's practice of blackface in the opera Aida. She called it archaic, reinforcing racial stereotypes.
