Joan clarke was a codebreaker and an important part of the Enigma Project which helped the Allied powers win World War II. Her intelligence and talent for codebreaking earned her the spot as the head of Hut 8 under Alan Turing. In addition to her talent for codebreaking she performed groundbreaking research in the field of numismatics. She was appointed a member of the order of the British Empire in 1947.Her role in the Enigma project can be seen in the film The Imitation Game.
