Tina Sharkey, born in 1964 in New York City, is an American entrepreneur, advisor, and investor, known for her ability to connect consumers and businesses through innovative digital platforms. Sharkey attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. Sharkey's career began with her involvement in bringing HDTV to the U.S. market, where she played a key role in lobbying Congress at just 22 years old. In 1995, she co-founded iVillage, a pioneering online destination for women that grew to become the largest of its kind, eventually selling to NBC Universal for $600 million in 2006. Her early work in the digital space also included registering the domain names socialmedia.com, socialmedia.net, and socialmedia.org, making her one of the first to use the term "social media." Following her success with iVillage, Sharkey went on to create interactive and online brands for Sesame Workshop and later joined AOL as a senior media executive, where she oversaw multiple business units and led key community programming initiatives. In 2006, she became chairman and global president of BabyCenter LLC, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, where she expanded the site's reach to more than 100 million visitors across 22 global markets. She also led Johnson & Johnson's Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA) initiative, a partnership with the U.S. State Department aimed at providing vital health information to expectant mothers in low-resource settings around the world. In 2013, Sharkey was appointed CEO of Sherpa Foundry, where she partnered with public companies to develop new innovations. In 2017, she co-founded Brandless, an e-commerce platform designed to offer high-quality, affordable products directly to consumers, which was lauded by Fortune as a significant player for the millennial market. Beyond her entrepreneurial ventures, Sharkey is an active investor in early-stage media and technology companies and holds various advisory and board positions, including on the PBS Board of Directors and the Havenly and HeyDay boards. She is also a guest lecturer and mentor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a lifetime board member of the nonprofit Baby Buggy. Sharkey is a 2006 Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and has been recognized by Business Insider as one of the Top 50 angel investors. She currently resides with her family in Mill Valley, California.
