Ada Monzón, born on May 12, 1965, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a renowned meteorologist and the first meteorologist from Puerto Rico. Monzon holds a Master’s degree in Meteorology from Florida State University and was the first woman in Latin America to become a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. Monzón began her career at the U.S. National Weather Service Forecast Office in San Juan and later served as Chief Meteorologist for Univision Puerto Rico (WLII-TV). She is involved with various scientific and educational organizations and is a member of Puerto Rico’s Climate Change Commission. With over 1.7 million social media followers, Monzón is known for her critical role during Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, providing essential weather updates and helping the public stay calm and prepared. She has received numerous awards, including the 2018 National Weatherperson of the Year and the 2019 AMS Award for Broadcast Meteorology. Additionally, Monzón has appeared in the films "Force of Nature" (2020) and "Stranded in Paradise" (2014), further showcasing her diverse talents and commitment to public service. Currently, Monzón is the Chief Meteorologist for WAPA-TV's Noticentro al Amanecer, Univision Radio (WKAQ 580 AM), and the Noticel digital platform. She is also the Founder and President of EcoExploratorio: Science Museum of Puerto Rico, a non-profit focused on environmental protection and education.
