Riska Carolina is an Indonesian Human Rights lawyer and defender, focusing on sexuality law. Carolina currently works at the CRM (Crisis Response Mechanism) Consortium, which focuses on resources for prevention and response to LGBTQ+ cases. The Indonesian government has been restricting basic human rights, particularly for LGBTQ+ community, as such Carolina is determined to confront and make change. In 2022, the Indonesian parliament passed a penal code which violates the rights of women religious minorities and discriminates LGBTQ individuals. This law has significantly angered and impacted individuals as it prevents the right to freedom of opinion and expression. As part of the LGBTQ+ community herself, Carolina has suffered discrimination and persecution as a lawyer and defender in Indonesia, which is more reason why she is strongly committed to her cause. Carolina has done interviews and made speeches of the injustices of this penal law, her voice garnering significant attention. Slowly, Carolina and many others have been working towards transforming this unfairness and making Indonesia a more all-inclusive society. Every voice counts!
