Estefania Vela Barba is a Mexican activist, and the Executive Director of Intersecta. Intersecta is an organization that works to eliminate gender inequality by attempting to identify the sources of discrimination and human rights violations. Vela Barba has dedicated her life into researching and teaching, her works have focused on the relationship between gender and law, and she has a number of publications pertaining to such. She has written numerous posts for The New York Times and her points of focus have strongly touched on significant issues. Her organization, Intersecta has campaigned against the Gender pay gap and conversion therapies. It has also publicly declared that the militarization of public security in Mexico endangers women and the gender diverse people. Vela Barba uses humor as a way to show that misogyny is not a laughing matter, herself and "Estereotipas" (a comedy trio), raises awareness of gender equalities through YouTube sketches satirizing stereotypical male behaviors. To focus more seriously on the issue, they also have women share stories on social media about the first time they were harassed in order to evoke pathos from the audiences. This way people are able to realize the severity and seriousness of gender inequality.
