In the heart of the bustling New York City, Kate Marvel stands tall, a scientist with a passion for climate justice that matches the skyscrapers surrounding her. Kate’s journey began with a fascination for the natural world, leading her to pursue a career in climate science. Her work focuses on the complexities of Earth’s climate system and how human activities are impacting it. Kate’s commitment to activism was the urgent need to address climate change. She believes that science should not only be about research but also advocating for change. Kate does a lot of scientific writing urging lawmakers to take bold action on climate change. Her testimony was a rallying cry for politicians to prioritize our health of our planet over short-term gains. Kate’s words resonated with many, inspiring a new wave of climate activists to join the fight. She writes a column for Scientific American called “Hot Planet,” while also being a contributor to All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis, a new collection of essays by women in the climate movement. Outside of her scientific work, Kate is also a vocal advocate for diversity, and inclusion in STEM fields. She believes that everyone regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to pursue a career in science. Kate’s voice has become a powerful force, calling for action to protect our planet and its inhabitants.
