Former child star, Bridgit Mendler, made headlines in early 2024 when people learned she is now co-founder and CEO of a space tech company. In her youth, she was known for the Disney show “Good Luck Charlie,” where she played the eldest sister who created advice videos for her baby sister. In 2013 she received the Radio Disney Music Award for Best Acoustic Performance. She sang the song, “Hurricane,” which she wrote. Growing up, her mother was an architect and her father worked on designing car engines, so Mendler was not a stranger to the engineering world. She is transparent about her experience at the University of Southern California, where she dropped out in 2016. Mendler had been admitted as an anthropology student because of a mistake she had made on her application. Now, at age 31, she is CEO and Co-founder of Northwood Space. The company produces ground stations for space communication. Her education journey did not end at USC. She is close to completing her PhD and a juris doctor program at MIT Media Lab and Harvard Law School. At Harvard, she was also co-president of the Harvard Space Law Society during the 2022-2023 school year. In 2019 she married Griffin Cleverly, one of the co-founders of Northwood Space. They started fostering a boy in 2021 and adopted him at the end of 2022 around Christmas. In 2024, he is 4 years old. In a Twitter post from March 7, 2024 Mendler shared a saying her parents have, “do everything, it’s a blast.” “I enjoy pushing the boundary of the possible and saying yes to more things, but also it is important to flex the muscle of prioritization and discernment,” she said in the post. “For myself, I’ve found that learning when to say no or not right now can be more of a skill than saying yes."
