She is known for the “Monica Makes It Happen Show” where she herself honors others who have made contributions to society, and for “Monica Makes it Happen,” where she visits underserved families in the Tri-State area. Monica Morales does what every community focused journalist should seek to do. Like many New Yorkers, I’ve watched her on TV as she visits the homes of families living in public housing left without heat or hot water. She urges leaders to take action to restore these essential resources. She is a master when it comes to using reporting to advocate for change, and she makes results happen. Hundreds of homes have received necessary maintenance because of her efforts. This is a woman worthy of recognition, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that she’s received numerous awards for her service to NYC communities. This includes the Latina Voice of the people Award, given by the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She also received the Triscort Award from the Tristate Catholic Committee on Radio & TV for her commitment to excellence in journalism and dedication to her Catholic faith. Additionally, it shouldn’t go unmentioned that she has received a National Emmy for Breaking News, six local Emmys, and an Edward T. Murrow Award for Investigative Series and Reporting. Monica Morales earned her Master’s in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Florida’s School of Journalism and Communication in 1996. She went on to work as an anchor and reporter at WNBC New York, WFXT-FOX25 Boston, WTVJ-NBC6 Miami, and WDJT-CBS Milwaukee. Morales married her husband, photographer Robert Adam Mayer, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 2011. She is a mother of two, and resides in New York City. Currently, she continues to hosts her own shows at PIX-11 News. Monica Morales is bold, understands her power, and knows how to use it. She is an excellent role model for social justice advocates, journalists, and future community leaders.
