Princess Diana (also known as Lady Diana) was married to Britain’s Prince Charles and became a well known personality. Diana is remembered for her service to the poor and needy, especially children suffering from health complications. Princess Diana made many visits to North America, visiting hospices, schools, and charities, touching the lives of many wherever she went. The Princess spoke out on a wide range of issues and used her high profile to raise awareness as well as funds for charitable causes. She is recognized and respected today as a true humanitarian.Throughout her life, Princess Diana was very active supporting many charities related to homeless and deprived children, drug abuse, and victims of HIV/AIDS. In 1987, she shocked many people when she publicly shook the hand of an AIDS patient. Her legacy continued, when The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was created shortly after her death in order to continue the Princess' humanitarian work in the United Kingdom and overseas.
