Florence was born in Oxford. At the age of 6, she starred in her first school play as Mary in the Nativity. She made her professional acting debut alongside Maisie Williams in "The Falling", in which The "Irish Times" deemed her remarkable. In 2016, Pugh starred in the independent drama "Lady Macbeth", playing Katherine. She says she is attracted to characters who's motivations are "confusing or at least interesting". The role earned her acclaim and stature, and won the BIFA Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film. In 2018, she played Cordelia in the TV film of "King Lear", in which she got a nomination for the BAFTA rising award. She also co-starred in "Outlaw King" the same year. In 2019, she had her first International breakthrough in "Fighting With My Family", which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Her most well known role to date was in the A24 film "Midsommar", as her intense portrayal of Dani. Most recently, she starred as Amy in the revival of "Little Women", garnering her an Oscar Nomination. She will also co-star alongside Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming "Black Widow" film.
