By: Raul Flores | Date Added:

Ann Belford was born on January 1, 1938, in Princeton, New Jersey. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Radcliff College in 1959. During this time (1957-1959) she also was part of a private study with Dr. Paul Tillich. She received the M.Div. in 1962 (magna cum laude) and the ThD (with distinction in psychiatry and religion) in 1967, both from Union Theological Seminary (UTS). Ann Belford began her teaching career at UTS as a tutor in the Psychiatry and Religion department while she was still a student (1965-66). She was a resident psychotherapist at The American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry in New York City from 1962 to 1965. In 1965 she set up a private practice, which it is understood that she now continues in 'retirement'. She was an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Religion from 1966-67. In 1967 she became Assistant Professor and held that position until 1974, when she became Associate Professor (1971-1974) and in 1974 obtained full Professorship, in the Department of Psychiatry and Religion. She continued to work in the department until her retirement from Union Theological Seminary in 2014. During her career, Ann Belford Ulanov was an active member of the International Association of Analytical Psychiatry, the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
