Zeinebou Mint Taleb Moussa is a leading women's rights activist in Mauritania, focusing on sexual violence. She founded El Wafa, a center for survivors of sexual violence, and serves as the president of the Mauritanian Association for Maternal and Child Health (AMSME). Trained as a midwife, Moussa and other midwives established AMSME in 2000 to educate women about reproductive health and rights. Recognizing the prevalence of sexual violence, she founded El Wafa in 2001 in in the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchoot, to address this critical issue. Moussa's impact extends globally. In 2016, she was named a member of the National Process for the Prevention of Torture. She has also served as an advisor for the Global Fund for Women, a nonprofit organization supporting women's human rights initiatives. Moussa's dedication to helping women has earned her numerous awards. In 2017, she was honored with the Femme de Courage en Mauritanie award, presented by the United States Ambassador to Mauritania. Zeinebou Mint Taleb Moussa continues to be a powerful advocate for women's rights, focusing on sexual violence and reproductive health, making significant strides in Mauritania and beyond.
