Teresa Benitez Thompson is a Democratic member of the Nevada State Assembly since 2011 representing District 27. She is currently serves on the Board of Directors for Corporation for Public Benefit for Nevada Youth Legislature. In 2006, Teresa was honored by the National Center for Law & Economic Justice for her work when used to served as the President for Nevada Empowered Women's Project. She has worked on legislation to increase funding for public schools , improve Nevada's economic development efforts, reduce gridlock at state agencies, and improve healthcare services for families and seniors. She is known as a strong advocate for jobs, energy, education, an government efficiency and spending. Before Teresa became a member of the State Assembly, she was crowned Miss Nevada in 2002. In 2003, she was placed 3rd runner-up at the Miss America Pageant.
